Family Owned Since 1960

Established in 1960 by Robert and Gloria Messerlian, the company continued to evolve when their son Paul Messerlian came onboard full-time in 1987. Paul expanded the retail division into what has become one of Rhode Island’s largest and most premier jewelry stores. Paul’s daughter, Janina Messerlian, joined the company in 2018 to carry the family business forward and into the future.

Now in our sixth decade, we believe the reason we’ve been around so long is because we’ve never taken for granted, not for one moment, the honor and trust our customers bestow on us when they choose our jewelry to express their love and joy. 

Our goal has always been to make the jewelry purchasing experience what it should be: comfortable and exciting at the same time. That means creating an atmosphere where customers feel relaxed and unintimidated. It also means willing to do whatever is necessary to provide you with a piece of jewelry that will make you glad you came to Baxter’s every time you look at it.

Where It All Began

Our original building was on the same ground our showroom is on today, only it looked slightly different; this  and has developed into our showroom today!

It Started With Pearls

Our founders, Bob and Gloira, would travel to Japan and select husks of pearls, like you see in this image. Our journey into retail all began with buying and selling pearls!
